Because there are several options when choosing a school in the Sumter area, we hope that you will give Wilson Hall full consideration. Wilson Hall offers a very challenging college preparatory curriculum, and we realize that our academic program is not suited for every student.
To request a school information packet and application, please contact the Director of Admissions (sean_hoskins@hotmail.com).
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Because class sizes are limited and the program is advanced, admission to Wilson Hall is competitive.
| Preschool & Kindergarten: |
Student readiness is the primary factor in gaining admission. |
| 1st-11th: |
Academic performance is the primary factor in gaining admission to Wilson Hall. |
| 12th: |
Local transfers to the 12th grade are admitted only under special circumstances. Applicants must have an excellent academic record with all of the necessary coursework to meet Wilson Hall's requirements, and applicants must have earned at least the average SAT score of the Senior Class to be considered for admission. |
To be considered for admission, all applicants must have scored at least in the 70th percentile on a nationally standardized test and
earn at least a C in core courses.
For students who have only taken the PACT, advanced scores in reading and math
are preferred but a minimum of proficient scores are required. In addition:
- Students applying for 1st -12th grades must perform satisfactorily on an entrance test.
- Students applying for admission to 6th - 12th grades may have to take an additional placement exam for math and/or English.
- Students applying for 9th-12th must have completed the necessary coursework in order to meet Wilson Hall's requirements for graduation.
- Although not required, interviews of students applying for grades 6th-12th are suggested.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process is a relatively simple one, and Wilson Hall accepts applications at any time. Before a student may be considered for admission, the application file must be complete with the following items:
- Completed application
- Application fee of $150.00 (fee is non-refundable unless the school cannot offer the student a position)
- Completed entrance test
- Photocopy of most recent report card
- Photocopy of transcript that includes all courses for which applicant has received high school credit, if applicable
- Photocopy of most recent nationally standardized test results
ADMISSION PROCESS
With over half of the classes filled to capacity each year, admission can be very competitive. For classes that are not full, the Director of Admissions decides which applicants will be admitted based on the applicant's file and academic record. However, for classes that have more applicants than there are vacancies, the Admissions Committee will decide which applicants will be admitted. The Admissions Committee also determines which applicants to the 12th grade will be admitted.
The entrance testing for the 2008-2009 preschool, kindergarten and first grade
classes was completed in February and new applicants are not being considered at
this time. However, applications will be accepted in the event that an
opening occurs for the upcoming school year, or for consideration for the
2009-2010 school year.
The primary factor the Admissions Committee will consider when granting admission is the academic record of the applicant. Once the applicant has met the academic and character standards required for acceptance to Wilson Hall, the following factors may also be considered by the Admission Committee prior to making their recommendation (considerations are listed in no particular order):
- Date of application - An early application date signifies a sustained interest in the Wilson Hall program.
- Siblings are in attendance at Wilson Hall - The school believes it is beneficial to keep families together if at all possible.
- Child of a Wilson Hall employee - Enrollment of faculty and staff children indicates a personal vote of confidence in the environment and curriculum.
- Child of a Wilson Hall graduate - It has been determined over the years that active alumni become active and involved parents.
- Brings special talents or skills to the school - One student's gifts and abilities have the potential to enhance the educational experience of the rest of the student body.
- Ability to pay tuition - The current parent keeps his/her bill paid in a timely manner.
- Supporters of the school - The parent is willing to commit time and talents as well as financial support for the school above and beyond tuition.
- Multiple sibling family - The positive impact made by a new family is frequently increased by additional siblings.
- Helps diversify the student body - Wilson Hall maintains and encourages the enrollment of students who will help diversify the student population.
- Assists in helping Wilson Hall's community responsibility - Wilson Hall is committed to playing an active role in assisting with the growth of both business and industry in the Sumter community.

Wilson Hall accepts applications for admission at any time throughout the year. However, students applying for preschool and kindergarten should apply no later than January 1st, and applicants for most lower school classes that will be filled to capacity should apply by February 1st. For classes that will be filled to capacity, the Admissions Committee will notify applicants of their admission status by March 31st. Wilson Hall will consider admitting transfer students for the current school year any time up through January, however, admittance after January is considered only under special circumstances.
