Sims State Teacher of the Year Finalist

Mrs. Tracy Sims is one of three finalists in the state for the S.C. Independent School Association Middle School Teacher of the Year program. After being selected by her peers at the school, Mrs. Sims entered the state-level contest by submitting an essay, resume, and recommendations from peers and the administration. After reading through the many submissions for Teacher of the Year from across the state, a panel of educators made the selection of the top three finalists for each division. Finalists will undergo an interview process before the state teachers of the year are announced. There are 105 schools in SCISA. Mrs. Sims teaches eighth grade composition and Spanish I and is a lower school reading specialist, and she serves as the advisor for the Middle School Quiz Bowl.

Wilson Hall raised $12,112 for the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital by hosting its second annual mini-dance marathon. In partnership with the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon which raises over half a million dollars every year through the Miracle Network, the money raised will go to support bettering the lives of children at the hospital. Held in the Nash Student Center from 5:00-10:00 PM on February 10, the event featured music, games, activities and food for students of all ages. In addition to raising money through admission to the event, the committee raised money through a Pie-a-Teacher event, a donut eating contest, bake sales, tee shirt & bracelet sales, and the solicitation of donations through the Miracle Network’s website. The student-led event was organized by the following members of the Executive Committee: Steph Areford (Chair), Kirsten Fisher, Hailey Ford, Breland Land, Ingrid Singleton and Amelia Weston. Ms. Liz Affronti served as the faculty advisor for the committee.
