Seniors Sean Alderson, Shelby Guldan, Callie McAdams and Ingrid Singleton, members of the high school quiz bowl team advised by Mr. Tom O’Hare, participated in the annual Central Carolina Technical College Academic Challenge.
Sean earned the high score for overall general knowledge as well as the high score for business & industry and history & literature.
The team marketing competition, in which Wilson Hall placed first, consisted of teams tasked with identifying a target student and developing a marketing strategy to recruit the target student to attend CCTC.
Thirteen four-student teams from Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties participated. The Academic Challenge is structured in a Jeopardy/College Bowl format where teams compete against one another on topics that include: business and industry, health, history, literature, mathematics, popular culture, and science.
There were three areas of competition: general knowledge exam, team marketing competition, and academic challenge. The general knowledge portion was a computer-based 100-question multiple-choice exam in which all students competed against one another.
The final competition was the Academic Challenge portion, to which Wilson Hall advanced to the finals, where teams participated in a Jeopardy style competition.
