The high school debate team of junior Luke Kinney and senior Greyson Sonntag won first place in the S.C. Independent School Assoc. State Debate Competition. The topic of the debate was “The constitutional right of freedom of religion has wrongly evolved into freedom from religion.” In individual recognition, freshman Hannah Alsaadi won best speaker in the novice division and eighth-grader Mary Jones won best speaker in the middle school division. The team of juniors Bridget Anderson and Emily Bell won second place in the novice division, and in the middle school division the team of eighth graders Mary Jones and Annie Lauzon placed second and the team of eighth graders Lucy McIver and Harsh Patel placed third. Mrs. Stacey Reaves is the advisor for the high school team and Mrs. Dianne Sprott is the middle school team’s advisor.
