The 55 members of the Class of 2017, the 47th graduating class, joined the 2,337 people who count themselves among the ranks of Wilson Hall’s alumni. Merit-based scholarships, valued at $3.7 million, were awarded to 96% of the graduates. The scholarships included 12 full academic scholarships, 14 half academic scholarships, nine Palmetto Fellow Scholarships, and 37 Life Scholarships.
The average SAT score for the top 25% of the class is 1205, with a high score of 1600, and the average score for the entire class, with all seniors taking the SAT, is 1223. Over 90% of the graduates took at least one Advanced Placement course, with many taking six or more, and were eligible to receive college credit.
Every member of the class gained acceptance to a four-year college or university. In addition to all of the major South Carolina institutions, students were accepted to a wide variety of schools such as Penn State, University of California, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Point.
Members of the Class of ’17 volunteered 3,892 hours of community service during the school year. The recent graduates contributed to the school’s newspaper and yearbook which were named the Best in State, and competed on the Chess Team, Debate Team, Drama Team and Literary Meet Team, all of which won multiple state championships. They also won the top awards in the state for art and music competitions. In addition, they were members of teams that won numerous state championships in baseball, girls’ bowling, boys’ cross-country, boys’ golf, and softball.
