Senior Luke Kinney has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. Valued in excess of $400,000, the appointment covers the cost of tuition, room and board, medical and dental care, and fees, and it includes a monthly stipend for living expenses. This fully-funded, four-year federal government program builds a solid leadership foundation that is essential for the graduates who serve their country as a U.S. Air Force officer following graduation. To receive an appointment, students must earn high grades in the most challenging of courses available, such as Advanced Placement courses, earn a high SAT or ACT score, excel in athletics, and have a record of demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community. Applicants submit letters of recommendation and essays, pass a fitness assessment, and, in most cases, receive a nomination from one of his or her state’s congressional representatives.
