Seniors Edward McMillan and Kate Whaley were crowned the May King and Queen at the 43rd annual May Day celebration in the Nash Student Center. Other members of the senior court were Betsy Cunningham, Robert James, Catherine Kelley and Grier Schwartz. Senior members of the court were elected by the 12th grade, and grades nine-12 elected the king and queen. The program began with the presentation of the court that included representatives from grades one-12, followed by the traditional May Pole Dance by the fifth graders. The program concluded with a musical production, with the theme of “May Day Memories,” performed by students in grades one-five. Sponsored by the PTO, Mrs. Susan D. Osteen was the chairman of the event and Mrs. Kimberly Land was the co-chairman. The lower school music teachers are Mrs. Frankie Eldridge and Mrs. Jeanne Shaw, Mrs. Jennifer Reimer choreographed the program, and Mrs. Meg Creech and Mrs. Mary Simmons coordinated the May Pole Dance.
